Can You Use a Pan to Heat Up Tortillas?

Do you have left-over tortillas or frozen tortillas in your fridge? You can heat them and make a nice meal out of them. Here are several ways to heat your tortillas.

Heat Them on an Open Flame

The thought of doing this can be daunting for you but is very fast. Using a pair of tongs, hold your tortilla over an open flame set to medium-low. Hold the tortilla over the flame for 15 to 30 seconds on each side. You will know it is ready when the tortilla starts to bubble.

Use a Pan To Heat Your Tortillas

The most common method used to heat tortillas is on a pan or skillet. They turn out to be tastier if you add a little bit of butter to the pan before you heat them on it. Heat both sides for about 30 seconds on medium-low heat. Comal pans are best. Click here to get more information on comal pans and how to use them.

Heat Them in the Oven

Hating your tortillas in the oven will take longer, but it is perfect if you are heating a huge batch of tortillas. Wrap your tortillas in foil and place them in an oven pre-heated to 350 Fahrenheit. Leave them in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Heat Them in a Microwave

Using the microwave to heat your tortillas is the easiest and fastest way to get them warm. Simply line a microwavable dish with a damp kitchen towel and place the tortillas on top of it. Cover with another damp kitchen towel and heat them in the microwave for about 15 seconds.

How To Keep Your Tortillas Warm

After heating your tortillas, they might get cold and hard very fast. You can prevent this by wrapping them in kitchen towels after you heat them.

Melt Butter Over Them

Melting butter over your tortillas will not only keep them soft but will also add a pleasant taste to them. The butter comes in handy, especially if you are heating flour tortillas since they tend to get dry fast.

Is Heating a Tortilla Important?

Since it is cooked, why can’t they just be stuffed with whatever is at hand? Well, you have to heat your tortillas, and here is why:

  • They taste better: warmer tortillas taste better than cold tortillas. Try the two and see the difference.
  • They soften up: heating your tortillas will make them soften. It becomes easy to fold and will not crack or break.

Tortillas are a great meal. You get to choose what should go into your tortillas. Warm them up and have an easy and delicious meal today.
